UFC 92: The Ultimate 2008 will feature a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout as its main event with UFC Light Heavyweight champion
Forrest Griffin taking on top contender
Rashad Evans.
UFC Light Heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin is a slight favorite to win over Rashad Evans, but Rashad Evans definitely cannot be discounted. After all, Rashad Evans remains unbeaten with 1 remarkable 12-0-1 MMA record. Rashad Evans most recently KOed UFC legend Chuck Liddell with a huge punch that echoed throughout the UFC. That was very impressive coming from Rashad Evans.
However, prior to that, Rashad Evans wasn’t so impressive, coming up with a controversial split-decision win over Michael Bisping back in UFC 78 and before that drawing with Tito Ortiz in UFC 73. So, while the MMA record of Rashad Evans has no losses, it doesn’t mean that he is an unstoppable MMA fighter. In fact, if there’s anyone to put a loss in the record of Rashad Evans, then it has to be Forrest Griffin.
Forrest Griffin is definitely one of the most talented technical MMA fighters in the UFC. The expertise of Forrest Griffin as a striker and as a submission artist are well documented, and he’s had recent big wins against the likes of Quinton Jackson, Mauricio Rua and Hector Ramirez. In fact, his last fight against Quinton Jackson gave him an impressive unanimous decision in order for him to earn the UFC Light Heavyweight title.
Forrest Griffin may be the favorite, but he’s had his share of problems which include a recurring shoulder injury and the fact that he can get knocked out as what Keith Jardine did to Forrest Griffin back in UFC 66. However, Forrest Griffin has shown his ability to bounce back and develop, winning with an awesome rear naked choke against Mauricio Rua in UFC 76. Back then, 2005 Pride Grand Prix Middleweight Champion Mauricio Rua was considered the No. 1 light heavyweight in the world.
Rashad Evans definitely has KO power in his punches, and Forrest Griffin should do well to avoid the sledgehammer of Rashad Evans is he is to maintain his UFC Light Heavyweight title. Of course, for obvious reasons, Forrest Griffin won’t want to end up like Chuck Liddell who just jello-ed when he got rocked by Rashad Evans.
And while many MMA critics and fans might think that Rashad Evans got lucky with that one punch over Chuck Liddell, it still makes him the No. 1 contender and definitely worthy of a title shot against Forrest Griffin. The only thing left now is to keep the focus and win the belt, and if Rashad Evans is successful in that, he’ll maintain his unbeaten streak, and prove to be one of the most dominant MMA fighters of all time.
Other main event cards to look forward to in UFC 92: The Ultimate 2008 include: Antonio Nogueira vs Frank Mir for Interim Heavyweight Championship bout and a non-title Light Heavyweight bout between Quinton Jackson vs Wanderlei Silva.
In the Nogueira-Mir match, Antonio Nogueira is currently the UFC interim Heavyweight champion and former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir is the No. 1 contender. The winner of the Nogueira-Mir bout will face off UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in a unification bout in 2009. Brock Lesnar recently won the title from UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture.

THE ICEMAN vs. THE AXE MURDERER!
Liddell vs. Silva
One of the most anticipated match-ups in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) history former UFC light heavyweight Champion Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell will battle former Pride Champion Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva on December 29, 2007 at the Mandalay Bay events center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The event, UFC 79 Nemesis will also feature Matt Serra and Matt Hughes squaring off for the UFC welterweight championship.
Dana White, UFC President said that Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva have both wanted this fight for as long as they can remember, and this is definitely the fight that fans have waited for years to see. Finally, PRIDE’s most dangerous striker, Wanderlei Silva will face the UFC’s most dangerous striker, Chuck Liddell and the world will know after years of speculation who will be the better fighter.
Wanderlei Silva is one of the most accomplished mixed martial artists in history. Silva’s string of twenty straight consecutive wins in Pride is just unbelievable and hard to imagine. Wanderlei Silva is a true champion in every
sense of the word.
Wanderlei Silva’s fighting style of Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu makes him a great stand up fighter.
Silva’s punches somewhat unorthodox but he hits very fast, named “The Axe Murderer” has a knockout power in either hand, and his low kicks and knees, including flying knees, are just exceptional.
Chuck Liddell can sneak in against Wanderlei Silva since Silva leaves himself open to being hit, but beware that is the reason why he is always on the offensive.
Chuck Liddell is a consummate professional that has fast become the UFC’s most marketable name. He’s ready and willing to take on all comers. Chuck Liddell is also a master at getting the other guy to fight his game.
Chuck Liddell’s fighting style of Kempo, Kickboxing and Wrestling makes him a good boxer adds to that his ridiculous power. Though Chuck Liddell’s punches are hardly worthy of a demo on straightness, Liddell’s unorthodox strikes have time and time again shown to be one punch knockout worthy.
Chuck Liddell’s greatest skill is his takedown defense; it’s what has allowed him to take great wrestlers like Tito Ortiz, Kevin Randleman, and Randy Couture out.
This will be an exciting match between the two legends in the sport – Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva who will be fighting the most important match in their careers at UFC 79. Bet on Chuck Liddell to beat Wanderlei Silva in UFC 79.
